We are really looking forward to making the trip to NY for this tournament tomorrow. Master Luigi Mondelli always puts on an organized event that honors the rules set forth by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. This event is open to all athletes from all schools.


All athletes must verify that their registration information is correct on our website on the registration check date which is February 23rd. Check weight, belt, academy, age division, and name information. Corrections can be requested by sending an email to please list subject ‘NYOPENBJJ CORRECTION’.


The schedule will be posted at 72 hours before the event date.


  • Before each fight, adult athletes will be asked to show their id’s to the officials. Make sure to bring it with you.
  • When officials call for each bracket, athletes must report to and stay in the warm up area. Prior to being called into the fighting areas, fighters will first have to get weighed in and get their uniforms checked. If athletes are competing in both Gi and No-gi competitions, this process will be done twice.
  • There will be no division changes allowed on tournament day and no refunds will be made.
  • If an athlete weighs in over their weight division, they will be immediately disqualified.
  • Gi requirements are traditional weave fabric only (single, double or golden) and color must be all blue, white or black.
  • When an athlete wins a match, they must return to the warm up area and remain there until their next fight. No coaching is allowed in the fighting area.
  • Athletes should NOT wear groin protection in both Gi and No Gi divisions.
  • Rash guards should not be worn by men in any Gi divisions. Rash guard should be worn by women.
  • Rash guards are mandatory in all NO GI divisions.
  • Depending on the number of athletes in the tournament, some classes may not have an absolute division.

16/17 year-old – Men only
16 and 17 year-olds will compete in the same division

  • Please note that the kid’s brackets will be made according to the demand. Before registering please email us the competitor’s age, belt and weight to and wait until you receive a confirmation email.

Adults – Men and Women
White belt 5 minutes
Blue belt 6 minutes
Purple belt 7 minutes
Brown belt 8 minutes
Black belt 10 minutes

Masters (30-35) – Men only
White belt 5 minutes
Blue belt 5 minutes
Purple/brown/black belts 6 minutes
